Everyone has their own packing ritual before they travel. Some just dump everything into the luggage, some like to overpack in case of emergencies, while others such as myself like to have lists. Recently for the past year or so, I have added another item that is a necessity when travelling and that is my Pyrite! This blog is about my lucky Pyrite and where she has travelled, the locations she has seen and the adventures we shared!
History
Pyrite is a very special stone to me. It was the first gemstone necklace I had purchased when I started my crystal journey and its history speaks to me. Pyrite gets its name from the Greeks, from pyr which means fire. Although this name was given to many stones that emitted sparks. In the late Medieval period, Pyrite was used in the first firearms to generate the spark that lights up the gun powder, later on it was replaced by Flint (not Captain Flint) due to it being a harder stone. Its story doesn't end there…during the famous American gold rush it tricked gold hunters into thinking that Pyrite was GOLD!! Little did they know that this wasn’t even worth 1/5th of the value of Gold. Fast forwarding to today, this stone is used my crystal healers for shielding them from negative energies. And by myself as a travelling companion.

I. MOSZNA, POLAND: Witcher School
The first trip I took my pyrite on was to Poland. The purpose of my visit there was to go up for Witcher School, a LARP based off the Novels and Games about a Witcher. This was meant to be p

art of my costume, something that I was going to wear daily through out my whole adventure and stay there. This stone was linked to my character. A Pirate (ironic) named Lugos who was a Gemologist upon a ship. He was given this gem by his father who was sadly killed by the Temerians who raided the village when he was a little boy before he ran away to join a pirating crew. But before all this started I needed to snap a shot of this gem and be creative…for the sake of aesthetic and likes. So I hopped out of the castle (yes, we stayed in a castle, fancy aye?) one free morning before the LARP began and tried to snap a shot of it next to a tree or the river…you can guess which one won! From then on, till after my Witcher test and inauguration I decided to take this gem with me on all my travels and get a snapshot of it and something that reminds me of the place.

II. MOSCOW, RUSSIA: The First Snow

The second trip took us to Russia. While this trip doesn't have the same epic tale of the Polish journey this was still a treat! We travelled to Russia with a team of University professors and best friend to perform. My first goal as soon as we landed was to jump head first into snow…before you judge, please note that I had never seen snow before in my entire life and therefore at the age of 21 this felt like it would compensate (and it felt good; cold…but good). I wanted to take a photo of this marvellous Pyrite surrounded by snow to capture the magic and awe of this unforgettable experience. And after many attempts I managed to snap one good shot outside of our breakfast place.

III. LIVIGNO, ITALY: The Alpine Gods
The third journey was even colder than Russia…we visited the Alps. The grand, majestic and enormous mountains surrounded us for about 5 days, where we celebrated the birth of the New Year. But this time, I wasn't sure on how or where I could snap a shot of my Pyrite…I did snow in Russia…so where? Then it hit me…the mountains would make for an astonishing background. On the third day (no he didn't rise again) we went up one of the mountains for lunch and it was the perfect moment.

This was up till now, the hardest and toughest photo I had ever taken. The ice giants were at work, with the wind being so rough, strong and bloody cold it was hard to stay still and keep myself from falling off the edge of the mountain. Not to mention that it was hard to stay there bare handed to press the snap button on my phone. To add insult to injury it was really sunny, and therefore all the white snow was reflecting straight into my eyes, making me unsure what the image was going to look like…was it focused? Was the pyrite out of shot? Am I going to fall down and die in the cold ice and be discovered months later? Has the food arrived on the table? NOBODY KNOWS…well at least until I got inside and looked at the photo, it was good.

IV. MODICA/RAGUSA, SICILY: The Fields of Medusa

This summer me and mi bonnie lass travelled to Sicily to enjoy a short summer holiday. We headed to Modica and Ragusa, two Baroque cities in the beautiful and mythological island of Sicily, the land guarded by Athena, bearing shield with the head of Medusa. It was a lovely holiday filled with local wine and luscious cheese platters (many of them). This image was taken after a lovely walk in Ragusa, where we enjoyed
the lovely view of the rich Sicilian fields. You can smell the fresh air just by looking at the image.

V. SCARBOROUGH, UK: The land of Seagulls
Have you ever been woken up at 5am by huge, griffin sized Seagulls? I have…in Scarborough, but alas and alack it didn't bother me that much! This journey was amazing from start to finish, this was my first ever solo work trip as a PIRATE! My dream had come true, and it was beautiful. We filmed for a total of two days and enjoyed every second of it, forming part of my outfit was obviously my lucky Pyrite. It was hard to snap this image, as due to filming I barely had time to take my phone out. But between shots after a long day of drinking rum and sailing (its my job) I managed to snap a shot on the beach of Scarborough! A dream come true, forever engraved in my Pyrites memory…it still smells of fish and chips ❤.
